 Citizens riding by our station may have noticed the windows in the truck bay doors now have a mirrored finish and you can no longer see the trucks.  All truck bay  windows were recently tinted with a reflective tint to block out UV light. The UV light from the sun over the years in the old station has led to the discoloration of equipment installed in the front passenger area of trucks parked in front of the bay door windows.  The UV rays also destroy firefighting protective clothing.  Even though the new mirror finish looks appealing, there is a more practical reason for the tint besides improving the look of the building.

The Navassa Volunteer Fire Department recently received certification from Mine Safety Appliances (MSA) as a certified self- contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) repair center.  The department is authorized to make all repairs to any MSA Fire Hawk SCBA the department owns.  The current fire station was designed with a SCBA repair room for future SCBA maintenance and repair.  The room is climate controlled and equipped with three test benches. The benches are for (1) SCBA flow testing, (2) mask fit testing, and (3) SCBA repair. The room is pre-piped with high pressure air from the station breathing compressor.  The facility is equipped with an OHD Quantifit fit tester, Posichek USB flow tester, repair tools, lubricants, service manuals, and spare parts to handle any SCBA repair. The Department gas meter is also calibrated in this room.  In addition, several members of the department are certified MSA repair technicians.
